Hair is a defining part of a woman’s appearance but it can also say a lot about a woman’s lifestyle. Older women who have longer hair are on the rise. Women in their earlier years are in the thick of things (changing diapers, chasing their careers, raising children, carpooling etc) so it makes sense that these women would have shorter styles.
When women are in their mature years, they can embrace the longer hairstyles that they have desired and have more time to dedicate to long hair. Below are celebrity inspired long length hairstyles for stars over the age of 50.
Dana Delany: This long hairstyle is beautiful on 50 plus Dana. Her hair color compliments her fair skin tone nicely. A red tone is nice and warm; it naturally creates a lot of shine as the light bounces off the hair. Shiny hair is a sign of vitality and everyone associates vitality with youth.
Allison Janney: This is a great cut and color for Allison. Her hairstyle is relatively easy to replicate with the use of a flat iron. Women can use bangs as a way to disguise the fine lines we get as we get older and using side bangs keeps it a youthful style.
Alex Menses: Alex’s hair has a lot of movement because of the layers that are stacked on top of one another as well as the way it is styled. Each layer is flipped out adding an element of volume too. The thin highlights can help camouflage any non-pigmented hair that may pop-up. This is a very elegant long hairstyle for older women.
Andie MacDowell: Andie isolder than 50 and knows that long, shiny hair is never going to go out of style. Her shade of brunette has warm undertones which help add to the luster while a good shine spray can make even the dullest of hair sparkle. With the volume she has, she’s wise to rock a side style.
Lori Loughlin: For years we have watched the lovely Lori Loughlin go lighter with her hair color. She is adopting the laid back southern California style trend. This beachy wave design looks great on older women and it can be easily duplicated with wrapping large sections of hair around the curling wand and misting with hairspray for maximum hold.
Julianne Moore: Generally when one thinks of Julianne Moore, surely her superb acting skills and glamorous red hair come to mind. While the vibrancy of her red tone has waxed and waned over the years, she has never gotten too wild with it. Julianne has always rocked red hair in a sophisticated manner. Now that she’s aged over 50 she still looks great with her long hair.
Lori Singer: We love Lori’s pop of color brought out by her vibrant lipstick, seen here. It works so well with her blonde hair and light eye make-up. She has side swept bangs that effortlessly blend into her face framing layers to give her a trendy, yet timeless hairstyle. A simple yet very attractive long hairstyle for a woman over 50.
Elizabeth Hurley: Elizabeth is demonstrating good cause to bring the chunky highlights back into a mainstream trend once again. This is a flattering hairstyle because the bangs and top layer flip and fall right at the cheekbones, perfectly accentuating them while her large barrel curls create loads of sought after volume.
Sharon Stone: Blonde beauty, Sharon Stone’s hair is the ideal length – not too short nor too long. It falls right at the shoulders, creating an outward flip to the ends thus giving her plenty of movement while the off center part generates some height in the bangs area. What a flattering look for a women who’s over 50!
Heather Locklear: This is one of Heather’s more au naturale days. We all have them, as opposed to her more thoroughly styled looks. This is an excellent photograph to use to examine her untouched hair to see where the layers naturally fall. Ladies, this would be a good one to show your stylist! This is a natural long hairstyle that most older women could easily wear.
